Microsoft has reportedly created a new team to future-proof and preserve the Xbox game library.

This is according to Windows Central, where it was revealed that recently appointed Xbox president Sarah Bond had sent out emails to employees about establishing this new team.

The emails noted that the team would build on the company’s strong history of delivering backwards compatibility.

“We have formed a new team dedicated to game preservation, important to all of us at Xbox and the industry itself,” Bond said.

Bond also noted that work would continue integrating Activision-Blizzard games and Battle.net into Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass.

“We are integrating Activision Blizzard King titles into our services — we launched Diablo IV into Game Pass, and Xbox has quickly become the #1 platform for D4 players,” Bond said.

The new preservation team is also significant as Microsoft will close parts of the Xbox 360 store this year for new purchases.

While hundreds of Xbox 360 titles remain playable on Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S, this new team will ensure they live on even further.

“We remain committed to bringing forward the amazing library of Xbox games for future generations of players to enjoy,”

Microsoft has reportedly indicated it would share more about this new team around the annual Xbox Showcases – 9 June this year.
