Ubisoft introduces one-time pass system, Uplay Passport

19 July 2011

Ubisoft has hopped on the one-time pass bandwagon with their unveiling of the Uplay Passport. The Uplay Passport will give players access to all the goodies and features that publishers don’t want the second-hand market getting for free. This includes access to bonus content, exclusive offers, and online multiplayer play.

Uplay Passport is an adjunct to Uplay, Ubisoft’s in-game online connectivity and game authentication service that justifies its existence by offering in-game rewards and community features.

The Uplay Passport system will begin to appear in the coming months and will be included in many of Ubisoft’s popular core games, starting with the upcoming Driver: San Francisco release. This means that Assassin’s Creed Revelations will feature the Uplay Passport system.

Ubisoft explains how it all works: “In each new copy of a Uplay Passport-enhanced game will be a one-time use registration code that, when redeemed, provides access to Uplay Passport content and features. The code can be found on the insert card inside the game box. Gamers can identify Uplay Passport-enhanced games by looking for the logo on the back of the box.”

Uplay Passports will also be available for purchase on PlayStation Store for $9.99 and on Xbox LIVE for 800 Microsoft Points. Customers that rent, borrow or purchase a pre-owned game can also purchase a new Uplay Passport online for $9.99 and automatically unlock the game’s online content and features.
