Battlefield 3 changes incoming

DICE‘s gameplay designer Alan Kertz has confirmed some of the changes it plans to implement in the next Battlefield 3 patch during a community podcast with Don’t Revive Me Bro.

Many players will be pleased to learn that the developer will be decreasing the effectiveness of tactical lights, which in their current state are able to blind players from a significant distance.

The effect torches have over short distances will not be altered, but they will no longer be so effective over longer distances.

DICE is also investigating reports of controller lag on the PS3 version of the game – some players have complained that there was no controller lag in the PS3 beta, but there is in the retail version of the game.

According to Kertz the controls have not been changed since the beta, and are fine, although DICE is investigating the possibility that certain TV set ups are causing the perceived input lag.

Mobile AA vehicles are also being investigated, after some players have complained that they are too effective at taking out jets and helicopters; this has been attributed to the effects which they have on aircraft rather than the damage which they cause.

Players have complained that the AA cannons knock aircraft off course, and in many cases make it very difficult not to crash.

Kertz also mentioned that DICE is investigating a balance issue specifically pertaining to jets.

While all other vehicles in Battlefield 3 can be repaired by engineers, it is almost impossible to land a jet and do the same. It would seem that DICE wants to somehow make it possible to repair jets as well.

Some players have complained that Battlefield 3’s weapons have far too much recoil when fired in burst mode. These complaints have been made specifically in comparison to Battlefield: Bad Company 2.

Kertz has responded saying that DICE is happy with the recoil, and that Battlefield 3 is not a sequel to Bad Company 2, and that Battlefield 2 was the basis for its development.
