The latest NPD sales data for the US are out, so all the top games and their sales figures are lined up for us to scrutinize and criticize accordingly.

The two biggest kids in the playground are Battlefield 3 and Batman: Arkham City, taking 1st and 2nd place respectively.

Battlefield 3 boasts an impressive 2 million US sales for the month of October, with the Dark Knight trailing closely behind with 1.5 million units sold.

Taking the last spot on the podium is NBA 2K12, with id’s controversially received shooter Rage just missing the medals with 550,000 copies sold.

Other notables are stupidly difficult RPG Dark Souls at 6th place and racing sim Forza 4 at 8th, although sales figures for these have not yet been announced.

Check out the top 10:

1. Battlefield 3 (360, PS3, PC), Electronic Arts
2. Batman: Arkham City (360, PS3), Warner Bros. Interactive
3. NBA 2K12 (360, PS3, PSP, Wii, PS2, PC), Take Two Interactive
4. Rage (360, PS3, PC), Bethesda Softworks
5. Just Dance 3 (Wii, 360), Ubisoft
6. Dark Souls (PS3, 360), Namco Bandai Games
7. Madden NFL 12 (360, PS3, Wii, PS2, PSP), Electronic Arts
8. Forza Motorsport 4 (360), Microsoft
9. Gears of War 3 (360), Microsoft
10. FIFA Soccer 12 (360, PS3, Wii, PSP, PS2, 3DS), Electronic Arts

On the platform front, Xbox 360 retains its title as top dog, with sales up nearly 21 percent from last year at 393,000.

Nintendo’s 3DS has been doing well since its drastic price drop, and this month was no exception, with sales announced of over 250,000, with Wii figures close behind.

The DS predecessor is still pulling its weight with 180,000 sales.

Sony has decided to keep their sales figures quiet, but NPD confirmed that the 3DS was 2nd in sales for the month, so whatever Sony sold, it was less than 250,000.
