Crysis 3 gets official, first details

The worst kept secret over the last week has to be the inevitable unveiling of Crysis 3 after box-art and details leaked out through Origin; but EA have jumped on the hype and officially confirmed Crytek’s upcoming instalment into the acclaimed series.

As speculated, Crysis 3 will be a sandbox-styled shooter, giving players a lot more space and options, similar to that of the original game as opposed to Crysis 2.

The third instalment (barring Crysis: Warhead) will pick up after the events of Crysis 2, where Prophet is on a revenge mission after uncovering the truth behind Cell Corporation’s motives for building giant, area-separating quarantine Nanodomes, which are the corporation’s attempt to seize valuable technology for their own use.

Still filled with the alien Ceph roaming the city and the remaining citizens told that the domes are for their “protection”, Prophet has to be vigilant of who he trusts and what threats lie ahead.

The game will take place in the New York City Liberty Dome, which consists of a dangerous and dynamic urban rainforest, teeming with overgrown trees, dense swamplands and raging rivers. Within the Liberty Dome, seven distinct and treacherous environments become known as the Seven Wonders.

In order to deal with the threats that lie within the domes, a combination of high-tech human and alien weaponry, including the lethal composite bow, which is visible in the screenshots released. These weapons and the nano-suit technology will give players the edge to capitalise and adapt to the new-found and unpredictable environments, allowing Prophet to go from hunted, to hunter.

Mutliplayer will also play a significant role in Crysis 3 as three editions will be available, namely the Stalker Pack, Overkill Pack and Predator Pack, which all include various exclusive weapons to suit players’ preferences.

“Crysis 3 is a thrilling mix of sandbox gameplay, advanced combat and hi-tech human and alien weaponry that shooter fans will love,” said Cevat Yerli, Chief Executive Officer of Crytek. “Leveraging the latest CryENGINE technology, we’re able to deliver seven unique themes that offer stunning and visually loaded gameplay experiences. We cannot wait until people get their hands on the game.”
