Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA), an affiliate of the South African Confederation of Sport and Olympic Committee, has announced they will be sending a team to represent South Africa at the 2012 IeSF World Championships of gaming.

This year the 2012 IeSF World Championships will be held in Cheon-an City, South Korea from 4-8 of October 2012.

The MSSA has sent teams across to the IeSF every year since 2009.

Many of South Africa’s top gamers have been afforded through this ongoing venture the ability to hone their skills and make their mark on the international scene. One just has to think of Abubakar Ebrahim Akhalwaya , Rolando De Aveiro, Magiel de Lange, and Robert ‘PandaTank’ Botha.

Thanks to the IeSF/MSSA collaboration, Robert ‘PandaTank’ is now seeded among the top five StarCraft II players in the world.

Through participation the teams not only earn their Protea Colours, but are are afforded the opportunity of meeting all the other top players from the rest of the world.

In 2012, the gaming titles being contested are TEKKEN and StarCraft II.

The following gamers have qualified for the 2012 National Team Trials to be held in August.

TEKKEN 6

• Johannes Bothma – HSDOJO – (Free State Championships)
• Lyrene Kuhn – KMSC – (Free State Championships)
• Babas Abbas – TEKKEN ARENA SA – (SA National Championships)
• Scott Sutherland – OE – (SA National Championships)
• Donald Mullany – OE – (SA National Championships)
• Matthew Mariga – WITS – (Gauteng Championships)
• Marushka Bosch – KMSC – (Gauteng Championships)

The list of qualifiers is set to grow as the national team trials draw closer.

As we get closer to the NTT’s so the list of qualifiers will grow.

With the Mpumalanga, Western Cape, KwaZulu Natal, and online championships for StarCraft II still to be held, there is still time for aspiring competitive gamers to qualify for the annual National Team Trials in order to be selected to represent South Africa.
