It may come as absolutely no surprise, but Diablo III has broken records to become to fastest selling PC game of all time.
Blizzard have revealed that 3.5 million copies have been sold since it’s worldwide launch last Tuesday (15 May 2012), and that’s not even counting the 1.2 million players that received the game as a bonus for signing up to World of Warcraft’s Annual Pass.
So in total, more than 4.7 million players logged on (or tried to log on) to Blizzard’s servers on launch day. Kind of explains the whole thing coming to an abrupt halt, doesn’t it?
Throughout the duration of the last week, Blizzard said that 6.3 million copies have now been sold.
The Korean market has also not even been counted, and most definitely will make up an even more staggering number, with the game dominating the online record share of 39%.
Blizzard once again apologised for the server issues on launch day, but are appreciative of your money dedication to the game.
“Regarding today’s announcement, we recognize that setting a new launch record is a big achievement,” Morhaime continued. “However, we’re especially proud of the gameplay feedback we’ve received from players worldwide. We’re pleased that Diablo III has lived up to players’ high expectations, and we’re looking forward to welcoming more players into Sanctuary in the days ahead”.
All jokes aside, it’s an impressive feat by Blizzard, and a testament to the strength of gaming in the modern market, particularly to that of PC gamers.
