Best selling games in SA

Market research company Gfk has released their latest stats on the SA physical retail gaming market, revealing which titles sold the best across major platforms during May 2012. Despite a mostly quiet month on the retail release front, there were a few big name titles that entered to shuffle up the rankings.

Unsurprisingly, Diablo III reigned supreme on PC, even though it only had half a month to perform, having launched on 15 May. Interestingly, the Diablo III Collector’s Edition was the second best-seller on PC in May, suggesting that there are lots of hardcore Diablo fans in SA.

On Xbox 360 it’s surprising to see the long-awaited Max Payne 3 (15 May) beaten to the post by the less-than-stellar Kinect Star Wars, although the latter did have a head start, having launched back in April.

On PS3, it seems little can be done to usurp Gran Turismo 5 from its reigning position on the charts. The title has remained at number 1 for the last 3 months since MyGaming began reporting on SA sales stats. Not even Max Payne and his stylish slow-mo shooting could beat out the stalwart racer.

The PS2 is still a strong seller despite its age, and gamers are enjoying some classic titles on the platform, along with more recent releases.

Nintendo reigned supreme across their platforms with first-party titles.
