Wikipad gaming tablet specs revealed

Wikipad, the people behind the – you guessed it – Wikipad, have revealed specs for their new Android-based gaming tablet ahead of its scheduled release later this year. The tablet was apparently shown at CES in January, but for some reason, everybody here at MyGaming HQ missed it the first time around. I’m sure it’s all Jeremy’s fault somehow.

Perhaps most significantly, the Wikipad tablet ships with a detachable controller dock with all the buttons and triggers and sticks you’d expect to find on a regular game controller, making this one an interesting prospect for serious gamers on the go who weren’t already planning on buying one of those Razer gaming tablets.

Plug and play, baby.

On the inside, the Wikipad packs an Nvidia Tegra 3 T30 1.4 GHz quad-core processor, 1 GB of DDR2 RAM, and “at least” 16 GB of built-in Flash memory for storage (which may be increased before launch), as well as an 8 megapixel camera on the back and a 2 megapixel camera on the front.

The 2D 10.1-inch display features a 16:10 1280×800 resolution, with a 3D display under consideration for future models.

This whole lot is powered by Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and an onboard 23.46Wh battery supporting up to six hours of gaming and eight hours of video playback.

The actual tablet weighs in at just 560 grams and is only 8.6mm thick, very slightly thicker than the iPad 2 and almost 40 grams lighter.

Back in May, Wikipad and Gaikai signed a deal to provide game streaming services for the tablet, although there’s been no more news about that since. With Sony’s recent acquisition of the company, this obviously poses a potential conflict of interests between Wikipad and the PS Vita, although it remains to be seen how this actually plays out.
