An image has found its way online that is reportedly shows what Kinect 2.0 is capable of. It’s a dev kit image, but it shows off a lot of improvements. Check it out:

One improvement would appear to depth perception: the image shows the individual fingers of the person on the left, despite the hand being held close to the person’s body. It would also appear to be of a higher resolution, with each of the individuals having a distinct outline.

The image is yet to be confirmed or authenticated, but it comes courtesy of DaE on Twitter, the same people who leaked Durango dev kit images, which have since been confirmed as legitimate. This doesn’t mean this is the real deal, but it means the source is fairly reliable.

Kinect is a technology with a lot of potential that never really took off; perhaps with these improvements in technology we may see a more widespread adoption.
