Sony reveals PS Vita Cross Buy, PS One classics, PS Plus

14 August 2012

Sony has revealed its new Cross Buy feature, which will be a staple for most upcoming first-party games.

Cross Buy allows users who purchase certain games on PS3 to also gain access to the PS Vita version for free.

Playstation All Stars: Battle Royale will cater for Cross Buy, allowing PS3 owners to get the PS Vita version for free with their purchase of the game.

Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault and Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time will also be part of the Cross Buy initiative.

Jim Ryan, CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, said that Sony will continue to invest heavily in the Cross Buy feature, indicating that there will be more titles to come.

Sony also announced that from 28 August 2012, PS One Classics will be available on PS Vita – best start saving for one of those proprietary memory cards.

This feature will be coming via the PS Vita 1.8 firmware update – full details on the PS Vita 1.8 firmware here.

Titles confirmed so far include Final Fantasy VII, Metal Gear Solid, and Resident Evil 2.

Finally, Sony announced that PlayStation Plus would be hitting the PS Vita. This is at no additional charge to the standard PS Plus membership.

Jim Ryan announced that PS Plus cloud storage has been raised to 1GB.

September’s Game of the Month will be Red Dead Redemption, and October’s will be Hell Yeah! Wrath of the Dead Rabbit.
