In news that comes via some alternate reality where Duke Nukem Forever wasn’t a terrible, terrible game, Gearbox Software boss Randy Pitchford is apparently dead set on making another one.
After more than a decade in development, Duke Nukem Forever finally launched in 2010, only to become an instant bomb with a Metacritic score of just 49 and sales numbers less than half its expected target. Fail to the king, maybe, but not to daddy.
“I willingly and lovingly acquired the brand. When I did that, I wasn’t thinking that the only goal is just to make sure everyone could play Duke Nukem Forever. The real goal for me is I’d like to build a Duke Nukem game again,” Pitchford told IGN.
“I think what I would do and what Gearbox would do would be a little different [to Duke Nukem Forever]. I think it would be amazing, and I look forward to that.”
We can only hope it’s another ten years or more until that happens.
