MWEB will join Telkom Internet and Web Africa in allowing their subscribers to participate in the high-speed broadband trial, free of charge.
MWEB ISP CEO Derek Hershaw said that they have identified about 120 qualifying subscribers and that they will be contacting them telephonically this week to invite them to participate in the trial.
Good news for qualifying MWEB subscribers is that their speeds will be upgraded to up to 40Mbps free of charge during the trial.
“They will not be asked to pay anything extra to participate in the trial. We will provide them with a VDSL modem, and there will be no additional charges for the line speed or bandwidth upgrades,” said Hershaw.
Hershaw said that they are looking forward to getting started and to see what the actual results look like. “We’d like to have everyone up and running by the end of the month at the latest,” said Hershaw.

Telkom has recently announced that MWEB, Internet Solutions, WebAfrica and Cybersmart will join Telkom Internet to test broadband speeds of up to 40Mbps in areas where Telkom has deployed new generation access network kits.
The areas in which the trials will be conducted are Benmore Gardens, Fourways and Waterkloof in Gauteng; Durban North in Kwa-Zulu Natal; and Durbanville in the Western Cape.
