In news that nobody could ever have predicted, Activision has announced they’re launching their very own mobile social gaming platform for iOS called Activate. Get it? ACTIVate. Genius.
According to Inside Mobile Apps, the service will let users create an Activate account or log into the network using their Facebook credentials and features friend lists, leaderboards, and achievements, much like OpenFeint, EA’s Origin Mobile, and Apple’s own Game Center. Activate will also add cloud storage support to selected titles, so users can save and access their stuff on any iOS device.
No release date has been confirmed yet, but Activision apparently intends to introduce the service not only for all future games, but also for those that are already out. I’m sure we can’t wait.
