Wii U CPU and GPU clock speeds revealed

30 November 2012

A hacker has pulled the Wii U apart andgiven some clarity on what he believes powers Nintendo’s new console.

The hacker, Marcan, is well-known among the hacking and hardware community, and has published stories on HackMii.com before.

Marcan says that the Wii U CPU (which is powered by a three core IBM PowerPC 750) carries a clock speed of 1.24 GHz, while the GPU core is said to run at 550 MHz – which is based on an AMD Radeon 5000 series.

“So yes, the Wii U CPU is nothing to write home about, but don’t compare it clock per clock with a 360 and claim it’s much worse. It isn’t,” Marcan said via Twitter.

4A Games developer (Metro: Last Light) recently said that the Wii U CPU is “horrible, slow”.
