My Little Pony unauthorised MMO shut down

11 December 2012

An unauthorised MMO has been shut down, and unfortunately, it’s My Little Pony. Damn.

The reason for the closure is due to copyright infringement, as the creators never had consent of the copyright and trademark to develop the game.

The developers initially received “a complaint about copyright and trademark infringement” from Hasbro, but didn’t really take it seriously. Eventually, they did, and pulled the plug on the game and ended development.

“Hasbro is not to be blamed here,” said forum administrator ToastyJustice. “As per U.S. Trademark law, as soon as an infringement comes to light, they are obligated to defend the trademark, or they will lose it. They had no choice in the matter, regardless of what they thought of the project or how it benefited them.”

The developers have changed their name to Starlight Studios, and have promised a new project, which they assure is “pony related”.
