App of the Year 2012

The meaning of the word “app” has evolved to represent a bit of software designed to run on our portable computers in the class of smartphones and tablet PCs.

Popular website IndieDB has concluded their first and experimental “App of the Year” event. With 4,000 votes logged, the editors and community have decided on the top gaming apps of 2012.

The top 5 gaming apps are as follows:

5 – Gua-Le-Ni

Also known as The Horrendous Parade, Gua-Le-Ni is an action puzzle videogame. Players will be challenged to categorize a bestiary of fantastic paper-animals before they flee.

4 – Dream of Pixels

A falling blocks puzzle game with a reverse twist. Players will unpack tetromino blocks instead of the usual packing.

3 – 3volution – A Primordial Soup Challenge

So, you think life just accidentally began when organic molecules (after millions and millions of years of swimming in a puddle of primordial soup) organized one-too-many swimming championships? Forget everything you’ve seen in science books, and forget what your teachers told you about the beginning of life.

2 – Minecraft Pocket Edition

Minecraft probably needs no introduction, as the creative sandbox block-building game has catapulted to international fame. The Pocket Edition includes randomly generated worlds, multiplayer over a local Wi-Fi network, along with Survival and Creative modes. You can craft and create with your friends anywhere in the world, just as long as you have hands spare and battery to burn.

1 – Knights of Pen & Paper

Knights of Pen & Paper is an indie turn-based retro style pixel-art RPG. Inspired by the great titles of the 90’s, the game intends to recreate the feeling of playing a traditional pen and paper RPG. The player gets to control the playing characters, the dungeon master, and what battles lay ahead.
