Razer Edge gaming tablet revealed

Razer has pulled its sleeve back and revealed the Razer Edge, the company’s new gaming tablet.

The Razer Edge is the end result of Project Fiona, a crowdsourcing initiative which asked the gaming community to determine the specifications for the gaming tablet.

The community decided on the chipset, weight, thickness, features and even the price, and the end product is the Edge.

Two models have been created, the standard Razer Edge and the Razer Edge Pro.

Razer Edge (Standard)

  • Processor: Intel Core i5 Dual core w/ Hyper Threading Base 1.7GHz / Turbo 2.6GHz
  • Memory: 4GB DDR3 (2x2GB 1600MHz)

    • Intel HD4000 (DX11)
    • NVIDIA GT 640M LE (1GB DDR3, Optimus Technology)
  • Display: 10.1-inch (IPS, 1366×768); 10-point capacitive touch
  • Operating System: Windows 8

The Razer Edge Pro

  • Memory: 8GB DDR3 (2x4GB 1600MHz)

    • Intel HD4000 (DX11)
    • NVIDIA GT 640M LE (2GB DDR3, Optimus Technology)
  • Display: 10.1-inch (IPS, 1366×768); 10-point capacitive touch
  • Operating System: Windows 8
  • Storage: 128/256GB SSD (SATA-III)
  • Network: Intel WLAN (802.11b/g/n + BT4)
  • Others
    • Stereo speakers
    • Codec supports 7.1 (via HDMI)
    • HD Webcam (front-facing, 2MP)
    • Array microphones
    • Dolby Home Theater v4
    • USB 3.0 x1 (green, SuperSpeed)
    • Audio jack (3.5mm, 4-pole, stereo out / mic in)

Both tablets will be running are Windows 8 and feature multi-touch capabilities.

There are also four dedicated configurations on the devices, including Tablet mode, Keyboard Dock mode, Gamepad Controller mode, and Docking Station  mode.

In addition to the on-board features, a gaming controller can also be attached to the device.

The tablet can be docked in a Docking Station, and hooked up to be a big-screen TV with home console mode. Multiple controllers can be connected for a local multiplayer session.

The standard Razer Edge is priced at US$999, while the Edge Pro will set you back US$1,299. The tablets are available for pre-order from the Razer Store.
