Nintendo hosting Wii parties for the elderly

9 December 2009

The holiday season is a time of giving, a time to take stock on the past year and feel some measure of compassion towards your fellow man. Nintendo it seems has embraced this philosophy wholeheartedly by hosting Super Mario Parties in Senior Communities.

In a bid to “encourage every generation to sample the game’s unique blend of imaginative, multiplayer fun” 42 Nintendo Gift packages were shipped to elderly homes around the US this week containing consoles and games in the hopes that the aged participants in question would “incorporate video games into their regular activities.”

According to ShackNews each community will receive a Wii console, a copy of New Super Mario Bros. Wii, 3 additional Wii Remotes and Nunchuks, a copy of Wii Sports Resort with 3 additional MotionPlus accessories, Wii Fit, a Wii Balance Board, Mario Kart Wii, and 3 extra Wii Wheels – arguably everything one needs to host a Wii party in an average home for the elderly.

No word has yet been given regarding whether Nintendo plans to adopt a similar promotion strategy in South Africa.
