The last proper work-week of 2009 has come to an end, and as companies close up shop for the festive season and hordes of holiday makers hit the open road on their annual quest for sun, sea and relaxation, our beloved gaming industry begins grinding to its yearly halt.

Having said that there were a number of interesting news pieces and articles which gathered significant attention over the past few days.

List mania

The end of a year inevitably leads to hundreds of lists detailing the highlights and lowlights from the past 12 months. This year has been no different. We started off with a look at the 10 best PC games of 2009, followed by the 10best PS3 games of 2009. Time Magazine released its own list of the ten best games of the year, and Common Sense Media came to the party with its “Ten game kids shouldn’t play”.

Local ISP’s focus on gaming

This week marked the launch of Web Africa’s Wage service, which allows its subscribers to play on its servers without using any bandwidth. They also announced plans to host a local Steam server, which will allow its subscribers to download content off Steam without using any bandwidth.

iGame also got involved, announcing its own service called iGame Unlimited.

World of Warcraft: local vs. private servers

Dead Space 2 confirmed

Publisher EA finally makes an official announcement on the launch of its survival horror sequel.

Medal of Honor gets release date

EA again steps up to the plate and announces the release date for its recently announced Medal of Honor “reboot” which will take the franchise from its traditional WWII setting into modern times.

GamesState – Local online gaming show offers prizes in return for suggestions

Recently launched local gaming show Gamestate wants your feedba on what it can do to improve itself. Entries close on December 18, and the most valuable suggestion will win a game hamper and R1000 Kalahari gift voucher.
