The lack of games on the SA iTunes store has been a topic of discussion since the local store launched in December 2012.

When the store launched, there was a vacant gap where the games category should exist.

In January 2013, eagle-eyed forumites on MyBroadband and SAgamer forums even picked up a widget-tile that appeared on the SA iTunes store, although it linked to nothing and was removed shortly after.

MyGaming contacted Apple, who remained quiet regarding the arrival of games on the SA store. An Apple rep responded:

“We have nothing to announce in terms of games coming to the App Store in South Africa.”

Apple said they would inform MyGaming when something changes.

The availability of games in iTunes remains a complicated affair. Current legislation means that games have to be submitted and classified/rated by the Film and Publications Board (FPB). South Africa is only one of two countries in the world that insists on its own system of classification being used.
