Batman: Arkham Asylum was one of the surprise hits of 2009, and has been widely credited with being the best comic-based video game ever made.
It currently holds a Metacritic score of 91 on PS3 and PC and 92 on Xbox 360. There have been numerous Batman games before it, all of which received lukewarm reviews, and few expected it to be one of the standout games of 2009.
Little is known about the sequel which was announced at the Spike Video Game Awards (VGA) over the weekend. The launch site arkhamhasmoved.com features a video, and Batman aficionados have already spotted hints that the game will feature Two-Face, Black Mask, The Penguin Joker and Harley Quinn.
Mark Hamil (Luke Skywalker) announced recently that he would no longer be doing voice work after voicing The Joker for over a decade in the animated series and Batman: Arkham Asylum. If the video is anything to go by then it sounds like he will indeed be revisiting the roll in Arkham Asylum 2. The Joker is looking decidedly worse for wear in the video, flaunting a weathered face, IV drip and a bad cough.
“We are honored to create the next chapter in this compelling story and promise to deliver another game worthy of the Dark Knight,” said game director Sefton Hill of Rocksteady Studios in a press statement.
