Gamasutra wants your Game of the Decade nominees

15 December 2009

The web is currently flooded with lists and nominations pertaining to the gaming highlights of 2009. International game industry focused site Gamasutra has taken it a step further and is asking for its readers to vote for their Game of the Decade.

“Any user with a valid Gamasutra user account can respond to the question – anonymously, if they wish – naming a game released this decade for any console, handheld, PC or online platform, and why they believe it outdid any other.”

There have been thousands of games released over the past ten years, only a handful of which are considered true classics. This makes it very difficult to choose just one to hold dominion over the entire decade. Many consider the concept of having an annual Game of the Year a contentious one, so trying to pick one for the entire decade is almost impossible.

Despite this, we have put together a list of some of our potential nominees:

Bioshock, GTA III, Oblivion, Call of Duty 4, World of Warcraft, Warcraft III, Fallout 3, Little Big Planet, Super Mario Galaxy, Portal, Braid, Mass Effect, Gears of War, Halo 3, Mass Effect, Uncharted 2, Metal Gear Solid 4…

Despite there being a variety of strong contenders, the sheer success that World of Warcraft has enjoyed over the past 6 years, as well as the sheer voracity with which its subscribers continue to support it, makes it our most likely contender.

Of course, it doesn’t matter what we think, which games do you think have stood out over the past 10 years? Have your say in the forums
