After declaring first person RPG shooter Borderlands the best selling fresh IP of the year in November publisher Take-Two interactive has come forward to reveal the numbers behind the success.
While discussing “recent product highlights” Take-Two revealed that the game has so far “sold over 2 million units worldwide” since its release in October to the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 platforms adding that it has now “established itself as a key franchise for Take-Two.”
This suggests that gamers may indeed see a Borderlands sequel in development next year. A number of reports thus far have suggested that this may be the case. In addition Take-Two added at the event that it holds the “long-term publishing rights” to the franchise and initially marketed it as “the first title in an all-new sci-fi action franchise.”
Although there has been no sequel confirmation the game has received two DLC packages – The Zombie Island of Dr Ned, which is now available and Mad Moxxi’s Underdome Riot which is due to be released soon. Borderlands has also secured positions on a number of reputable ‘top 10’ lists of 2009.
