Torrent news website Torrent Freak recently listed 2009’s most downloaded titles through popular download clients such as BitTorrent. 

Unsurprisingly perhaps Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is the year’s most pirated game, having been downloaded 4 100 000 times on PC alone since its’ November release. If these figures are correct this would have lost publisher Activision an estimated $245 million on sales says IGN. 

What makes these numbers more impressive, or perhaps depressing, is the fact that they were achieved in less than two months. This signals the level of demand the gaming community is displaying for Modern Warfare 2. 

According to Torrent Freak PC games are “by far the most downloaded titles, with on average more than three times the number of downloads compared to Xbox 360 and Wii releases”.
