Assassin’s Creed makes the news, accidentally

Screenshots can look pretty realistic these days, however, it’s good to not mistake them for real photos.

Danish news channel TV2 unfortunately fell for this, and used a screenshot from Assassin’s Creed during a report about Syria.

The station’s head of news, Jacob Nybroe, was quick to issue an apology, saying that it’s “a reminder to us all of the importance of verifying the sources of pictures.”

True words Mr. Nybroe, as this is not the first time that a video game asset has been accidentally used in the mainstream news, as the BBC used Halo’s United Nations Space Command logo instead of the official United Nations Security Council’s. Awkward.

If looking at it with a positive spin, it could be seen as a testament to how good Ubisoft’s recreations of iconic locations are. Maybe the next news story on Somali pirates will feature some Assassin’s Creed IV screenshots.
