Infamously outspoken Activision CEO Bobby Kotick has revealed in a recent interview with Game Informer that a sequel to the recently released DJ Hero is currently in development.
“I think DJ Hero is a really innovative product,” said Kotick. “I can’t wait for you to see next year’s.”
What is unclear is when these statements were made. This interview was found in the February issue of the magazine, meaning that Kotick could have commented in late 2009, meaning that fans of the DJ Hero franchise could possibly expect a follow up in 2010.
Kotick’s belief in the franchise is also somewhat surprising. Despite the significant marketing budget Activision attached to DJ Hero the game sold only 175 000 copies in its first month in the US and only 123 000 copies the following month – a number which would typically find publishers feeling weary towards releasing a quick follow up.
This negative sentiment has not however dampened Kotick’s enthusiasm for the franchise. “We’re sticking with it,” he added “We’ll stick with it and get it right. It’s going to be less games, better games. That’s our strategy.”
