Mass Effect 2 DLC will not be free

25 January 2010

Although all players who purchase a new copy of upcoming RPG sequel Mass Effect 2 will have access to a “single use unlock code” which will allow them to download free add ons through the in game online “Cerberus Network”, developer Bioware has announced that it intends to charge for some downloadable content at a later stage.

“We’ll definitely have for-pay DLC down the road too,” Bioware co founder Greg Zeschuk recently told Joystiq. “It’s not going to be all free DLC forMass Effect 2 – far from that. There’ll be paid DLC packs, and there’ll be stuff available through Cerberus as well.”

Those gamers who chose not to purchase a new copy of the game on either PC or Xbox 360 will have to pay 1200 Microsoft Points (roughly R112) to access the Cerberus Network and the content that it will offer.

Mass Effect 2 is set to be released in North America tomorrow (26th of January) while Earupeans, and therefore South Africans, will have to wait until the 29th of January.
