Hong Kong airport sports recreational PlayStation 3 stations

26 January 2010

Reports have surfaced that Airport Authority Hong Kong has installed a number of PS3 ‘game poles’ in Hong Kong international airport for public use.

The initiative, which was implemented in partnership with Sony Computer Entertainment Hong Kong saw fourteen units being installed near the boarding gates of Terminal 1 and the Coach Station at Terminal 2, all in an effort to make bored traveller’s journeys that much more enjoyable.

The Game Poles reportedly feature some of the most recent PS3 releases such as Final Fantasy XIII, Avatar, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and Assassin’s Creed 2 as well as highlights from the Asia Game Show x Online Game Show 2009.

A recent study showed that travellers in the airport spent an average of three hours within this restricted area waiting for flights. Now, instead of lazily browsing the isles of countless duty free outlets, travellers can log a few hours on the latest PS3 exclusive.

Here’s hoping that ACSA (Airports Company South Africa) chooses to take a leaf out of Hong Kong’s book.
