2 February 2010

Publisher EA today revealed that Bioware’s RPG Mass Effect 2 has sold two million units worldwide in its first week of release.

In addition to this the game has already garnered forty perfect review scores and thirty editor’s choice awards and currently holds an average review rating of 96% – making it the second highest rated game of all time on the Xbox 360 platform according to aggregator Metacritic.

On its first day of release the term ‘Mass Effect’ was in the top 10 trending topics on Twitter and most searched on Google News said the company.

“Mass Effect 2 is poised to be one of the biggest games of 2010. We could not be more proud of the game’s universal acclaim and early commercial success” commented Dr. Ray Muzyka, co-founder, BioWare and Group General Manager of the RPG/MMO Group of EA.

Although it’s clear that Bioware knew they had a hit on their hands before the release of Mass Effect 2 we’re not sure that they had anticipated for it to be this big. Nonetheless it has become clear that this release is poised to become one of the most popular and critically acclaimed of the studio’s lifetime.
