Update

An EA South Africa rep has contacted us, only to say “Unfortunately I cannot comment on your query” regarding the closure of EA South Africa.

Original article

LazyGamer is reporting that Electronic Arts South Africa will be closing its local offices, according to its industry sources.

According to the report, EA South Africa staff have been retrenched, but have been “‘looked after’ quite nicely in the form of compensation”.

MyGaming contacted EA South Africa to confirm this report, and while a senior EA representative did take our call, they could not discuss the report as they were busy with a meeting.

When asked “is the [LazyGamer] report factual?”, the EA South Africa rep said “I wouldn’t say that,” before heading into the meeting.

We await more information from EA South Africa as to what exactly is happening with the local arm of the global mega-publisher, and official word on whether the SA division is closing down entirely.

EA SA managed marketing, sales, distribution, support, and manufacture of EA Games in South Africa.

To me, hearing her stories, it was only a matter of time before their offices closed down completely.
