EA and Maxis have announced a “content set” for SimCity – the Amusement Park will release on 28 May 2013 on Origin. Seeing as this is EA, the first question that comes to mind is “how much will it cost?” – however, there is no word on whether or not this is free or paid content.

Maxis gameplay scripter, Jason Halvorson explained the expansion, saying the Amusement Park is a tourist attraction similar to casinos and landmarks, but running the park is a mini-game unto itself.

The city earns money from the Amusement Park by having guests either go on rides or purchase goods from concession stands. The layout of the park will be important to maximising profits.

The park is built by a placing a main gate, rides, and concession stands – collectively know as modules. These are the different kinds of modules:

  • Signs – Placed by the park entrance to attract more tourists. It also benefits all tourist attractions in the city.
  • Main Attractions – Roller coasters, Ferris wheel, go-karts, and more. These increase the tourist attraction rating of your city.
  • Secondary Attractions – Drop tower, carousel, and more. Cheaper than the main attractions and have a lower maintenance cost.
  • Concession Stands – The cheapest attractions available. Small capacity, but work through guests quickly. Every guest will go on three rides without going to a concession stand. After purchasing a good from a concession stand, the guest is “refreshed” and ready to go on more rides.
  • Mini Train Stations – Guests treat the mini train station like a secondary attraction. The ride is customizable, and can be drawn through the park and connected to a second station to create a guest transport system.
  • Park Gates – Additional entrances into your park.
  • Benches – Purely aestethic
