Unreal Engine 4 a long way off

23 February 2010

During the recent DICE gaming summit Epic Games Mark Rein revealed to Kotaku that although the company is hard at work the next generation of game building technology is still some way away.

Rein recently opened up regarding the possibility of the Unreal Engine 4 seeing the light of day before too long, adding that although the company is currently working on its upcoming offering the release is “still a long ways off.”
“Unreal Engine 4 is designed for the day we get massively multi-core processors,” said Rein, although he declined to say how many processors this may refer to.

“The current generation of consoles, which features a number of processors respectively, will not qualify – nor willthe following” said Rein.

It appears therefore that the Unreal Engine 3 still has a lot of life left in it, despite what some analysts might suggest.
