Quantic’s Dream’s highly anticipated psychological thriller Heavy Rain is out in SA this week, and we are pretty excited. The game promises to push the boundaries of video games by creating an unparalleled level of emotional engagement with the characters and world.
The developer is responsible for one of my all time favourites; Omikron: The Nomad Soul, not to mention the excellent Fahrenheit. Both games were praised for being ahead of their respective times.
In Heavy Rain, players are asked the ultimate question: “How far are you willing to go to save someone you love?” and the story revolves around the player trying to find a serial killer known as “The Origami Killer.”
Unfortunately the game is being released exclusively for PS3. This means that PC and Xbox 360 gamers will miss out, but then, the PS3 is cheaper than ever now, and with games like Uncharted 2 and Heavy Rain out, and God of War III and Gran Turismo 5 around the corner, there has never been a better time to invest in Sony’s flagship console.
The game is supposed to be out on Friday, but is already available at most game retailers. To celebrate the launch of what may be a very important game for this generation, we decided to find out which retailers are selling the game for the best price.
| Zaps | BTGames | Kalahari | Take 2 | Look & Listen |
| R590 | R635 | R592 | R591 | R699 |
As expected, Kalahari and Zaps take the lead, while Take2 illustrate their seemingly new found commitment to compete closely with these two. BTGames continues to slip a bit on their pricing, although they are still significantly cheaper than Look & Listen.
Take 2 are still charging R30 for delivery, so the effective price is actually R621. Zaps is currently providing free delivery until the end of March, and Kalahari offers free delivery indefinitely, once again making these two stores the cheapest places to buy game in SA.
The price listed for Zaps is their online price, and their in-store price will be slightly higher. MyGaming forum users may however claim the online price when buying from the store in Brightwater Commons. Make sure to contact Moody in the MyGaming forums to reserve your game if you plan to collect from the store.
