One of the most infamous stories of the video game industry was when Atari reportedly buried millions of unsold Atari 2600 consoles and copies of the ET game – arguably the worst thing ever created.
Well, a documentary crew from Fuel Industries has received the go-ahead to dig up the shameful pit of video game blunder in order to determine if the industry’s most talked-about urban legends is true.
The excavation will mark the 30 year anniversary of the supposed September 1983 burial, which was a result of the video game crash of the early 1980s, where Atari overproduced millions of consoles to cater for what they thought would be a welcoming market.
The burial is said to contain 3.5 million copies of ET, Atari consoles, PCs, and even prototypes of the Atari Mindlink controller.
