Following several damning reports regarding Ubisoft’s controversial new DRM system the developer has announced that upcoming Tom Clancy follow up – Splinter Cell: Conviction will also play host to the anti piracy measure.
Last week it surfaced that The Settlers 7 and Assassin’s Creed 2 on PC would both require always on internet to play. In addition it was revealed that a loss in connection would potentially erase game data and take the player back to the last checkpoint.
Ubisoft responded that the DRM addition will not be as negative as the media had portrayed it.
“As long as you do not quit the game, the game will continue to try to reconnect for an unlimited time. Once the game is able to reconnect, you will immediately be returned to your game”
“Where exactly you are reconnected in the game may differ from title to title. Settlers 7 reconnects at the exact point where the connection was lost, AC2 reconnects you at the last checkpoint (and not the last auto save, as indicated in the CVG article). There are many checkpoints so you’re back to the point where you got disconnected in no time.”
Other Ubisoft games which are also expected to carry the new DRM are Silent Hunter 5: Battle of the Atlantic, Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, and the all new Ghost Recon game in development.
