Things are heating up over at Activision headquarters, with Infinity Ward studio heads Vince Zampella and Jason West meeting with Activision earlier today. Reports began emerging that neither Zampella nor West had been seen by Infinity Ward staff since the meeting took place.
Later on in the day non-uniformed “bouncers” reportedly showed up at Infinity Ward headquarters, but would not give a reason for their presence.
Following the confusion, Activision filed an SEC report reporting “breaches of contract and insubordination by two senior employees at Infinity Ward.” It goes on to say that “this matter is expected to involve the departure of key personnel and litigation.”
Infinity Ward’s community manager Robert Bowling had this to say via his twitter feed, “I should also say, while I appreciate all the calls, tweets, messages and hearing my ringtone a lot, they’re in vain – as I have no info.”
Later on, West updated his Facebook status to read “Jason West is drinking. Also, no longer employed.” A screen shot of his status is available over at Kotaku.
It seems pretty clear that West is no longer working at Infinity Ward, and from the looks of things neither is Zampella.
Could the two have finally had enough of the publisher calling the shots? Following the debacle that was Modern Warfare 2 for PC, as well as the widespread general unpopularity of Activision CEO Bobby Kotick amongst gamers, it would hardly be surprising.
