World of Warcraft microtransactions in the works

5 July 2013

Blizzard has confirmed that it is exploring the idea of including in-game micro-transactions into its MMORPG World of Warcraft.

The discovery of micro-transactions happened when players stumbled across the Enduring Elixir of Wisdom on the game’s Public Test Realm (PTR). The item immediately adds a 100 percent experience gain to the player.

“We are currently exploring the possibility of adding a way for players in certain regions to make purchases directly within the game,” said Blizzard on it’s the WoW forums. “As part of this process, elements related to this will be appearing on the PTR. We’ll provide additional updates on our plans as development progresses.”

Previously, World of Warcraft added a $10 Cinder Kitten, but it was to pull together funds in aid of those affected by Hurricane Sandy, which hit the Northeastern United States in October 2012.
