iPhone overtakes PSP in revenue growth in 2009

23 March 2010

Using publicly available sources, Flurry analytics has revealed that gaming revenue on the iPhone and iPod Touch may have surpassed Sony PSP revenue in the United States in 2009.

According to the NPD Group “iPhone game sales using a combination of data made available by Apple and using ratios and calculations from an aggregated set of data [from Flurry’s own analytics data],” the group puts the iPhone’s game revenue at almost 400% growth in 2009 over 2008.

Although Nintendo’s DS was the obvious winner during the period Apple’s iPhone and iPod Touch jumped by 19% in revenue compared to just 11% for the PSP.

Although this might not be an indication that mobile crossover gaming is taking over, the data certainly indicates that Apple has a legitimate gaming platform on its hands.
