Review aggregation site Metacritic has released a list detailing the top 25 PC games of 2013 as of 1 July 2013.
The list includes expansions and indie games, which rank highly among the triple-A mainstream releases.
1. BioShock Infinite – 94%
Anyone who has played Bioshock Infinite can say that the game is arguably the best of the year (so far).
Irrational Games delivered an exciting new experience in the Bioshock universe, but kept intact all the things that helped gamers fall in love with the series.
The shooting is tight, the Vigor mechanics made combat interesting, the visuals were breath-taking, and most of all, the story managed to surprise, please and get gamers brains running on overdrive.

2. Fez – 91%
Fez has won numerous industry accolades celebrating it’s awesome indie-ness, and its PC release has finally given it the chance to woo some keyboard and mouse fans.
Fez won the “Excellence in Visual Art” award at the Independent Games Festival in 2008, Story/World Design and Grand Jury, at IndieCade in 2011, and “Seamus McNally Grand Prize” at the Independent Games Festival in 2012.
Aside from the visuals, the 2D puzzle-platformer uses a unique mechanic to rotate its world in a 3D plane, thereby revealing hidden and inaccessible areas, or completely changing the dynamic of a level.
3. The Swapper – 87%
For those who may not know of The Swapper, the game features a unique art style that uses real-world clay-models and found objects to create an explorable space station.
Gameplay sees players swap between different bodies to achieve otherwise impossible tasks, if you’re looking for great puzzles and an interesting story, then you’re in the right place.
4. Starcraft II: Heart of the Swarm – 86%
Heart of the Swarm brings with it more units, more buildings, and some heavy-duty tweaks to the fan-favourite strategy game, and it’s no surprise that it sits on the highest-rated list.
For the hardcore, the seemingly insignificant additions (such as extra units) have completely revised the structure of how Starcraft 2 is played.
5. Tomb Raider – 86%
Tomb Raider’s reboot this year marked a high point for the series which has undergone some tough times in recent years.
Square Enix did a phenomenal job at reinventing the female treasure hunter, to make her a more relatable and somewhat likeable heroin.
The game may have taken some tips from Uncharted, but its put itself into a frame of its own.
