Publisher 2K Games has announced that Mafia II will be released on August 24 2010. The game will be available on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

Let’s hope this release date sticks, as Mafia II has faced more than its fair share of delays.

Mafia II is a sandbox third person shooter, and is set between 1945 and 1955 in the fictional city of Empire Bay.  Empire Bay is based on a mixture between San Francisco and New York, with reported elements of Chicago and Detroit thrown in for good measure. So basically, it’s a generic coastal city in the USA.

The gameplay map will span 6 square kilometres, and will feature licensed music from the era, as well as around 50 different vehicles, and a range of weapons.
