Gears of War movie faces budget cuts

7 April 2010

According to the LA Times the movie based on Epic Games’ Xbox 360 smash hit Gear of War has hit the skids.

The report suggests that both the scope of the film and its budget have been scaled back considerably and that the project “has really slowed down”. In addition to this Director Lee Wiseman of Underworld fame is reportedly moving on to another project.

“The studio has now cut the budget, going from a film that would have cost more than $100 million to one that will cost a good chunk less than that. It’s also reined in the story, turning it into a more simple, straight-ahead invasion story instead of a sprawling epic” said the Times.

Inside sources are also reporting that the film will require a new writer and perhaps a new director before it hits the big screen.
