Activision and developer Infinity Ward have unveiled the multiplayer element of the upcoming Call of Duty Ghosts.
Infinity Ward developer Mark Rubin said that the multiplayer game was completely overhauled, the first such endeavour since the COD 4 days.
Current Call of Duty players will be pleased to learn their lifetime stats will carry over to the new game on next-gen consoles.
Stand out features in the multiplayer include:
- Over 30 new weapons
- New weapon classes
- 20 new killstreaks
- No deathstreaks
- No airborne UAV, replaced with ground-based system
- New perk system based on points spend
- Assigning perks is based on point value (8 points given for perks and each perk has a value from 1 to 5); get up to 11 perks by discarding primary and secondary weapons.
- New weapon loadout system
- New scope system with peripheral vision
- 14 maps
- Dynamic maps with physics objects (such as destructible segments of buildings, or tumbling objects)
- 7 new multiplayer modes
- Search and Rescue: when killed a player drops tags. Allies pick up the tags to revive; enemies pick up the tags to remove the player from the round.
- Cranked: when a player gets a kill they gain powerful abilities and must beat a countdown timer to the next kill. If they fail, they will explode.
- 6-player team-based Squad Mode, playable in singleplayer, co-op, or multiplayer
- Squad vs. Squad
- Squad Assault
- Wargame
- Safeguard
- Improved AI that acts more like human players (drop shots, corner camping, jump shot, strafe running, etc).
- Improved movement mechanics, including contextual motions such as contextual corner lean, fluid mantling jump, and knee slide to prone.
- New audio engine with features such as location context battle chatter (“They’re coming through the rear!”) and environmental sound distortion effects.
- Customisable soldiers boasting over 20,000 combinations
- Female soldiers
- Call of Duty mobile app that allows players to maintain contact with their clan and other social elements, and twiddle with load-outs and view stats on the go.
