With the lack of third-party support for the Nintendo Wii U a hot topic of discussion, Bethesda has explained that its due to Nintendo failing to involve the big studios and publishers from the start.
Bethesda Softworks vice president of public relations and marketing, Pete Hines explained that Nintendo didn’t openly communicate with publishers throughout the development of the console, and should have done “what Sony and Microsoft have been doing with us for a long time”.
“[Sony and Microsoft] involved us very early on… they say, ‘here’s what we’re doing, here’s what we’re planning, here’s how we think it’s going to work’ to hear what we thought,” Hines said.
“You have to spend an unbelievable amount of time upfront doing that. If you’re just. . .deciding, ‘we’re going to make a box and this is how it works and you should make games for it’. Well, no. No is my answer; I’m going to focus on other ones that better support what it is we’re trying to do.”
In September 2012, Bethesda said that the company had no specific plans for the Wii U and it seems that nothing has changed as of yet, with no new Bethesda games announced for Nintendo’s platform.
EA has previously said they have no games in development for Wii U, another bad omen for the struggling console.
However, there are many games being readied for the system; MyGaming recently had a look at the upcoming games lineup for the Wii U.
