Sony has come out with a surprising announcement at a pre-event press conference for the Tokyo Game Show, revealing a new PS Vita mode, the PCH-2000.

The new WiFi-only model is 15% lighter, 20% thinner, and has an extra hour of battery life.

On top of that, Sony has decided to ditch the OLED display in previous Vita models and opted for an LCD screen.

A big addition is the inclusion of 1GB on-board storage, which makes purchasing an initial memory card now an option. Sony also announced a 64GB card.

The existing memory cards, from 4GB to 32GB, will receive a price-drop, putting them at around $15 (R150*) and $68 (R678*) respectively.

There is also a new Micro-USB charger, which is the same as most modern smartphones using the Micro-USB input format.

The new Vita will be available in a variety of colours, namely pink, blue, grey, lime green, yellow, and the standard black.

The new PS Vita model is scheduled to launch on 10 October in Japan, priced at 18,980 yen (R1,900*).

If it’s at a good price and works with the PS4 as expected, then I’m keen.
