Scandal! Bungie signs to Activision

29 April 2010

Doesn’t Harold Ryan read the news or something? Apparently the Bungie president doesn’t know that Activision is just about the most evil corporate entity on the entire planet, because the company’s just signed to the vilified publisher – FOR TEN YEARS. There’s a medieval morality play in there somewhere.

“We chose to partner with Activision on our next IP because of their global reach, multi-platform experience and marketing expertise,” says Ryan, presumably under the blazing gaze of internationally accredited Dread Lord, Bobby Kotick. “From working together over the past nine months on this agreement, it is clear that Activision supports our commitment to giving our fans the best possible gaming experiences.”

Ryan should totally do coffee with Vince Zampella and Jason West.

Of course, Bungie’s done with Halo for now, having handed the franchise over to 343 Industries when their exclusive partnership with Microsoft was up. So what’s next? Talking to Kotaku, Bungie’s Brian Jarrad says, “”This is a brand-new action game universe that we’ll be working on. It’s definitely not revisiting anything from our past.” Yeah. Sure. Call of Halo Hero, anyone?

Bungie’s final Halo title, Halo: Reach, goes into a public beta next week.
