Medal of Honor Reboot gets release date

6 May 2010

Yesterday EA was spotted shooting its mouth off about how it wants to become the big daddy of first person shooters. It’s a fair enough goal, after all, military themed FPSs seem to be all the rage these days, a bit like how RPGs were about 3 years ago, and RTSs ten years ago.

Activision’s Call of Duty, and the Modern Warfare spin-off series  in particular are currently the biggest FPSs in the world. Then of course there is Halo, not to mention the dozens of other shooters that come out on a monthly basis. So what has EA got up its sleave? Well, they just released Battlefield: Bad Company 2 which is an epic game, and today they announced that their reboot of the long standing Medal of Honour franchise will be released on October 15, 2010 in Europe.

It’s probably no coincidence that this falls about a month ahead of the next Call of Duty games release date, Call of Duty: Black Ops.

So why does EA think we should buy Medal of Honour instead of Call of Duty 7? Sales pitch, go:

“Medal of Honor is an authentic look into today’s war. Inspired by real people and real events, the game puts players in the boots of today’s warrior—from the infantry ground pounder to the Tier 1 Operator,” said executive producer Greg Goodrich in the announcement. “We are proud of this piece because it offers a glimpse into the game we’re creating, while also showing the mindset of these warriors.”

Medal of Honour will be released on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. We’ll be keeping an eye on this one, so watch this space.
