Oh, those politicalistic people, always coming up with something new and stupid. Now apparently entertainment is a perfidious distraction from education. Because that’s never been true. I mean, I’m sure I never missed any classes reading books under the desk. Oh, wait. I did.
Speaking to graduates at Hampton University in Virginia, American prez Barack Obama dropped this soundbite: “With iPods and iPads, Xboxes and PlayStations -none of which I know how to work – information becomes a distraction, a diversion, a form of entertainment, rather than a tool of empowerment, rather than the means of emancipation.”
Of course, maybe it’s just because he doesn’t know how to work them, really. I mean, figuring that stuff out is so time consuming and intimidating. You have to read manuals and everything.
He also added that, “All of this is not only putting new pressures on you. It is putting new pressures on our country and on our democracy,” because a bunch of people playing Halo on Xbox LIVE is bad for America, and possibly fomenting communist ideologies and public subversion.
You’ve been warned, America. Everywhere else is safe, though.
