One would think a theme park simulator would be an unlikely candidate to walk the game-to-movie tight rope. Well it is, but that doesn’t mean it’s not happening.

After announcing an Asteroids movie last year, Atari has now handed the film rights for Rollercoaster Tycoon over to Sony Pictures.

Reuters reports that the Rollercoaster Tycoon will be a “live-action/CGI hybrid.”

It is thought that Harald Zwart (The Karate Kid 2010) will be executive producer as well as director.

The original Rollercoaster Tycoon remains one of my personal favourite PC games ever made, although I can’t say I’m particularly excited about the prospect of the movie. A tastefully done remake of the game on the other hand…e of the game on the other hand…
