Weekly game release highlights: 17 – 21 May

16 May 2010

This month has been good to gamers. Xbox 360 owners in particular were spoilt with Alan Wake which hit shelves on Friday. Lost Planet 2 is also now available, although it has received mixed reviews. Then there is Skate 3, NIER and Super Street Fighter IV.

Red Dead Redemption (Xbox 360,PS3)

Things get even better this week, thanks to one of our most anticipated titles of 2010; Red Dead Redemption (RDR). Grand Thef Auto creators Rockstar have called RDR their most ambitious title yet, and that is saying a lot considering their last release – GTA IV – remains one of the most critically acclaimed and commercially successful games ever made.

“In terms of sales projections, we are aiming high and as such are focusing more attention on retail channels than ever before. Once the game is released we expect that word of mouth and our massive launch media campaign will propel the game to excellent sales,” says Rockstar GM Neil Stephen . “This leaves us with very high expectations for what we think is our next blockbuster gaming franchise.”

Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands (PC, Xbox 360, PS3, Wii)

The second big release set for this week is Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands. The latest instalment of this epic franchise is scheduled for local release this Friday.

Returning to the storyline established in Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, and previously concluded in Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones, The Forgotten Sands takes the prince back to the Royal Palace which he finds to be under siege.  “When the decision is made to use the ancient power of the Sand in a desperate gamble to save the kingdom from total annihilation, the Prince will embark on an epic adventure in which he will learn to bear the mantle of true leadership, and discover that great power often comes with great responsibility.”
